Students, we want to hear from you too! Click here to go to your profile survey and tell us what you think for a chance to win a £20 voucher! We asked Dave to tell us about winning I’m an Engineer, and here is what he said… I was really delighted when I found out on Thursday that I’d won the competition – it put me in a great mood just as the St Patrick’s Day festivities were about to begin. I’m really happy that I took part in the contest; it gave me the opportunity to talk to people around the country about the work that engineers do. I sincerely hope that the people we talked to now have a better idea about what work as engineer is like, and that a few of them will have been inspired enough to think about becoming engineers themselves. Engineering paves the way for the future of our … Continue reading
The students have spoken. The votes have been double counted… Big congratulations to the Health Zone winner: David Nolan Hard luck to Veasna Sum-Coffey and Claire Conway but a huge thank you to everyone who took part. You were all brilliant. Students, don’t forget to tell us what you think about science and engineering now you’ve taken part. Log in to your profile, and fill in the 4 questions in the box on the right hand side, to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
We’ve counted the votes and you’ve now evicted… Bobby Huxford This leaves “friendly, hard worker” Veasna Sum-Coffey, “Driven, Ambitious, Hipster-wannabe” Claire Conway and “Clever, Smiley, Beardy” David Nolan to fight it out for the €500 prize tomorrow. Who would you like to see win tomorrow’s final battle? VOTE Students, has taking part changed your view of science and engineering? When you next log in and visit your profile, you’ll see a box with 4 questions on the right. Fill in the questionnaire to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
The first engineer you’ve evicted is… Claire Brougham One engineer will be evicted every day this week, and you get a new vote each day. Make sure to VOTE to keep your favourite in the competition. A student in each zone will win a voucher for asking great questions! And remember, you can comment on questions the engineers answer. Do you think the engineer is right? Do you disagree with them? Tell them! There was a small window today where our emails weren’t going out as they should, so make sure you go to your profile to check to see if your questions have been answered. Remember you can ask more questions.
The Health Zone is funded by Wellcome. The Engineers Veasna Sum-Coffey | PhD Student, National University of Galway My work will help bones heal faster after surgery. Claire Conway | Postdoctoral, MIT I work with doctors to better understand how medical devices perform in the body, such as stents for the heart. Bobby Huxford | PhD Student, NUI Galway I look at cracks growing in lightweight materials to see if we can use lighter materials instead of steel for bioengineering applications. Claire Brougham | Lecturer, Dublin Institute of Technology I make body parts using umbilical cords and materials I can get from animals and I hope that one day these can be implanted into babies who have hearts that don’t work very well. David Nolan | Postdoctoral Fellow, Trinity College Dublin I design and test medical implants using computers.
