I worked in the oil and gas industry for 6 months.
I am currently a PhD student at NUIG
About Me: I am 23 years old and recently began a PhD in Galway.
My name is Bobby, I am 23 years old. I was born and live in Galway.
Sport is a big part of my live. I play rugby and practice mixed martial arts such as boxing jiu jitsu and wrestling. I have fought at a national level, winning 10 out of my 11 competitions.
I enjoy watching TV and my favourite show is the big bang theory.
My Work: I am a PhD student looking at making light weight materials for cars and airplanes
Composite materials are extremely strong, for their weight, when compared to normal engineering materials like steel. This has lead to a large amount of research into how composites can be used to replace steel parts.
Unfortunately, composites are only strong in one direction. They need to be piled on top of each other to give us strength in all directions.
My Typical Day: Usually I get up and go to college where I make models of materials being tested.
